KJERSTIN MIX

Growing up in Lincoln, Nebraska Kjerstin enrolled herself in several activities to fill up the long cloudy winters. At first she tried gymnastics and at twelve she found her affinity towards dance. Falling for the New Mexico landscape she graduated with her B.A in dance from U.N.M. Their well rounded program included Laban and Bartinieff Movement, Feldenkrais, and Pilates which brought her to the Pilates method through Nora Daniel. Her dream of dance as a healing art became manifest through this up and coming method. She was teaching before she had completed her training with Core Dynamics in 1999. Believing that a great teacher is always a student she completed her Massage Therapy Certificate in 2002. With in integrity to find several avenues of movement therapy she found Rodney Yee in New Mexico for his Teacher Training in yoga in 2003 and she is working to complete her prerequisites for the Anusara Yoga program as well.

Gina Carmen

Like many Pilates enthusiasts, Gina Carmen found her love for the movement arts through dance. Gina took classes at age 4 and became a committed dancer by age 9. She competed in Tap, but she also has a strong background in Jazz, Hip-hop and Ballet among other modalities. After a hiatus in High School, Gina returned to the dance arena more committed than ever: “No matter how hard a day I had, dance was the one thing I could do to make my troubles go away. I would walk out of the dance studio forgetting whatever trials I had been facing.”

While pursuing a formal education in dance, Gina discovered Pilates. In fact, Pilates, as a discipline, refined her ability: “Through proper alignment and positioning, and the mind-body focus that Pilates stresses, I was quickly drawn in. Pilates develops the center and core strength, and through the movement of dance you develop balance and control.”

Gina completed her Pilates Instructor Certificate at Mt San Antonio College in Walnut, and has expanded her repertoire through training at Center of Gravity. “Pilates has helped me refocus and grow. Through the mechanics of Pilates, neutral pelvis, alignment, and body awareness, I found healing for my mind, body and spirit all at once. Pilates became a therapeutic cornerstone for me and my passion for the method continues to grow.”

Michelle Frescas

Michelle Frescas starting dancing at the age of 3 with a interest in all forms of movement. She tried everything from classical dance forms to martial arts to really understand movement and become very body aware. After years of memorizing routines and endless practices for competitions, she began studying other forms of art not so movement based. Again, she tried all the forms of fine arts to receive a certificate from Riverside City College. As she worked for her second certificate of photography she had an unfortunate car accident which injured both her knees, so unfortunately she had to discontinue dancing. Yearning to move again and to rehabilitate her body from the accident she discovered RCC was starting a Pilates program and was glad to be one of the guinea pigs for the new program. Fortunately the Pilates instructors were also the dance instructors so she was able to fuse all of her experience. Michelle has had the fortunate opportunity to instruct at many studios in the Inland Empire. After 3 years of experience, and 4 instructors later, she has chosen to dedicate her work to focusing on Scoliosis and using Pilates to rehabilitate others as it has worked for her.
